A new picnic shelter designed using a fabrication process involving CNC milling and casting. The shelter is oriented to be used from any area within the park, while still maintaining sight lines for parents looking out for children. The form responds to the site, allowing light to come in from the north while also being open and inviting to those moving along the path.
The shelter is constructed entirely of cast fiberglass, which is translucent to still allow light to pass through and for the shadows of the nearby trees to change as the light changes and the day progresses. The seats and tables are designed to aesthetically reflect the roof, as well as to give strength to the fibreglass through the moulded curves.
An economically viable solution and one that could potentially be modulated, the design could be developed to work in any park with the orientation to suit the layout of that particular location.
